Family Crisis Intervention Unit
The Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU) provides crisis intervention, short-term family therapy, case management and court advocacy to families in an effort to divert them from the formal court system, stabilize them, keep them intact, and prevent out-of-home placement. The program also serves as the intake unit for the Burlington County Shelter Program for Juveniles in Crisis.
FCIU serves families who are at risk for court involvement due to an erupting family crisis. One family member (the identified consumer) must be under the age of 18, live in Burlington County and meet one of the following definitions of being in a family crisis:
- Serious conflict between youth and family
- Runaway behavior
- Truancy
- Disorderly persons offense
- Other family conflict or problem
Referrals to FCIU come from the court system, the Division of Youth and Family Services, and other community agencies, as well as the police and families themselves.
