Anger Management Program for Youth

This 8-session program serves youth between the ages of 13-17 and their parents/caregivers. It is comprised of three components: youth group sessions, parent group sessions, and in-home sessions.

Program goals are to:

The treatment model is based on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Anger Management curriculum. It is a combined Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach that employs relaxation, cognitive, and communication skills interventions.

Since it is imperative that changes in attitudes and behavior begin with the family in order for youth to have the best chance of success, parents/caregivers are also expected to attend a set of parent group bi-weekly sessions. Parents learn the anger management skills the adolescents are learning and help the group to apply the anger management skills.

In addition to group sessions, this program includes an in-home component. The program's case manager will provide three in-home sessions for each family, one to take place at the beginning of the program, one at the mid-way point, and one at the end. These sessions will give families the opportunity to receive individualized attention so that their unique issues and needs can be addressed.

Referrals come from court, probation, Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU), and community agencies.
